Making A Difference Day 2013 List of Projects

Making a Difference Day logoBelow is a list of projects for Making A Difference Day 2013 on Saturday, October 19.  Please review the list and sign up for the project in which you and your family would like to participate.  *Need not be a member of any of these service organizations to participate.  Volunteers are invited guests at any of these projects.

The list below is organized by Project name, Host Group, Time, Location and Volunteer Needs.  At the end of the page is a sign up form, and once you complete the form, an organizer will contact you with additional information.

All volunteers are invited to attend a pre-event breakfast sponsored by the Blue Ash/Montgomery Rotary Club on October 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 7333 Pfeiffer Road.  Donations collected at the event will go to support the work of Operation Give Back.  Members of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce will welcome participants to the breakfast and provide care packages to those in attendance thanking them for their day of service.

Sorting Food and other items at Freestore Foodbank (two sessions)

  • City of Montgomery, Wise Temple and Montgomery Food Share (Faith Lynch)

  • needs 10-20 people, 16 years of age or older

Raking and providing light landscaping for residents of the community

  • Sycamore Junior High School and Sycamore Senior Center
  • immediately following breakfast
  • meet at Ascension Lutheran Church to receive your assignment
  • Volunteers need to bring yard care supplies such as rakes, shovels and clippers
  • Volunteers agree to provide light landscaping or raking leaves assistance to local residents, some include clients of Sycamore Senior Center

Collections for NEEDS Pantry

  • organized by Ascension Lutheran Church
  • collecting donations of Cereal,  canned fruit and canned vegetables, especially peas
  • taking collections at the Making A Difference Day breakfast on Sat, Oct 19 from 8-10am at Ascension Lutheran Church; also taking collections at the Montgomery Square Shopping Plaza Kroger, 9939 Montgomery Road,  from 10am- 4pm  October 19
  • NEEDS is the NorthEast Emergency Distribution Services located at 8341 Kenwood Road.  NEEDs is a group of concerned churches and organizations providing emergency assistance to community members in northeastern Hamilton County. Some members of NEEDS are also members of Connect Montgomery.

Collecting winter items for Mary Magdalen House

  • Items can be dropped off at  The Community of the Good Shepherd at any time
  • To benefit Mary Magdalen House, 1223 Main Street in Over the Rhine
  • Items needed include Men’s  and Woman’s clothing and toiletries including razors, shampoo, spray deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste,

Volunteer opportunities at Matthew 25 Ministries

  • Blue Ash/Montgomery Rotary Club, Montgomery Ministerial Association and affiliated congregations incl Montgomery Presbyterian Church, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and New Church of Montgomery

  • Families, groups and individuals are invited to sign-up.  Projects at Matthew 25 Ministries include sorting donations, preparing emergency kits or duties as assigned.

Assist with helping residents of Montgomery Care Center attend BAMSO performance

  • Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and Montgomery Care Center
  • 2PM at Montgomery Care Center, 7777 Cooper Road
  • residents are assisted with leaving their rooms to attend performance by Michael Chertock, piano, and daughter Maria, soprano, in common area of Montgomery Care Center.  Most residents are in wheelchairs and need help wheeling their chair to the common area. Volunteers to accompany residents are encouraged.
  • This Making A Difference Day Concert is a favorite activity for Montgomery Care Center residents.

Assisting with Tornado Memorial Revitalization

  • MCLA CLASS of 2013 (Marsha Kelpe)
  • 9:00 am to noon
  • Southwest corner of Sycamore High School grounds, 7400 Cornell Road (near practice football fields)
  • Assist with planting, maintenance and overall upkeep of the 1999 Tornado Memorial.

Adopt-a-Spot maintenance at Ronald Reagan Highway and Montgomery Road

  • MCLA Class of 2011 (Peggy Platz)
  • 9:00 a.m.
  • Meet at UC Physicians parking lot, 9275 Montgomery Road
  • Must be trained by City of Montgomery and must have proper waivers signed
