The Montgomery Woman’s Club opened up its 54th Town Hall Lecture season with a lecture by General Wesley Clark, retired NATO Supreme Allied Commander, on October 5. General Clark spoke to an audience at the Sycamore Junior High School and entertained questions from attendees. General Clark was very gracious with his post-lecture time and spoke to U.S. Army ROTC cadets from both Xavier University and the University of CIncinnati, offering up much army service career advice.
Now, as the series looks on to 2017, Katie Laur will both perform and deliver a talk in early March. Ms. Laur is a bluegrass music pioneer often heard over past years on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion”. Local residents continue to enjoy her weekly WNKY-FM radion show, “”Music From The Hills of Home”. Ms. Laur also shares her creative skills with those in the tri-state area with her Cincinnati Magazine column, “Letter from Katie”.
The October-April series concludes in April by hosting Melissa Gilbert, best known as “Half-Pint” on the 9-season TV series, “Little House on the Prairie”. Ms. Gilbert will recount her tumultuous childhood, memories from her 206 episodes as Laura Ingalls Wilder, and share with attendees updates on her continuing work to protect child actors. Ms. Gilbert served four years as President of the Screen Actors Guild.
As with all Town Hall lectures, the speaker presents the same talk twice, giving those interested two choices to attend – evening or daytime. There is always an exteneded Q&A period at the conclusion of each presentation. Lecture dates are March 8 or 9 for Katie Laur and April 5 or 6 for Melissa Gilbert. Wednesday lectures are held at the Sycamore Junior High School, 8:00pm. Thursday lectures are held at the Montgomery Assembly of God Church, 11:00am.
