In mid- August, before students go back to school, Operation Give Back, a local mentoring and tutoring organization geared towards students in Sycamore Schools, has a School Supply Give Away Event. They provided school supplies to over 400 students prior to the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years. Each student is given a backpack and all the supplies needed from their individual school supply list. Operation Give Back also needs enough supplies left over to provide students with extra pencils, pens, paper, crayons, etc. mid-year when their initial supplies run out. This takes a huge burden off families and teachers and schools by providing these students with the basic supplies needed to complete daily school work, projects and assignments. The School Supply Give Away Event is scheduled for Saturday, August 16, and the goal is to collect enough supplies for 300 students! In addition to school supplies, many local students and families also need basic necessities of food and furniture.
Drop-offs of food, school supplies and furniture to the Operation Give Back facility located at 10891 Millington Court may be made between 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays s until August 8. Would your local group or church like to participate? Operation Give Back is currently recruiting local churches and businesses to participate. Operation Give Back will provide organizations with bins/containers for collections and make periodic pick-ups. Please contact Lee for more information.
